Changes to our complex

The new lights installed throughout the complex are a welcome change. The increased wattage has added to our safety by lighting the mailboxes, dumpsters, and between cars in the parking areas.

Thomas Burdick has been hired to address this year's landscaping needs. Tom and his crew have maintained Edgemere's (referred to as Edgemere I) grounds for years with complete satisfaction.

  • Mulch will be applied to gardens and will take place during the last week of May. Gardens will fare better if a border is placed around it to reduce damage from edging.
  • Trimming of small trees and shrubs will be done by mid June with the exception of forsythia bushes, which will be trimmed immediately. The small trees will be topped off and may appear cropped--they will fill out naturally during the year.
  • Top dressing of grass (hydro seed) will be done immediately in the blighted areas.

Dave Korman is building a canoe and kayak rack for the dock area. Those interested in using the rack should contact Dave at 267-2834.

Board activity Items before the Board include:

  • A considerable paving project for the main roads and parking areas of our complex is being planned for late this summer or early fall. A summer meeting will be held to put this project before owners. A special assessment is being considered, however the full magnitude of the costs is not yet known. This assessment would be a fraction of the recently completed siding project. Complete details will be made available and individual owners will be given payment options as more information becomes available.
  • Painting of the air conditioner sleeves is currently being put out to bid. If you know of anyone who would be interested in submitting a bid please contact Richard Stern at 800-848-1918.
  • For your convenience, grill-covers for air conditioner sleeves may be purchased through the board. Please contact a board member if your a/c sleeve does not have a grill cover.

Emergency notices

Notices, such as emergency water shutoff, will be posted on the complex mailboxes. If you are not sure if a problem you are experiencing is solely within your unit, take a moment to check the mailbox for a notice. Planned water shutoff will be communicated in the usual fashion (a notice will be placed in your personal Hartford Courant box).

Tag sale

A Tag Sale will be held on Saturday, June 1st from 8:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. on the grass behind units 28-33. Everyone is welcome to participate. Contact Mindy at 267-8049 if you are interested in putting up a table of your own tag sale items. For those who prefer to shop, stop by and check out your neighbor's treasures.

Spring reminders

  • Beach and Docks are available for everyone--to ensure a safe summer, children under the age of 12 must have adult supervision. Swimming between and off the docks is prohibited. Since there are no trashcans on the beach, please carry out what you carry in.
  • Outside tables, chairs and grills may be left outside during the summer months. Bikes and toys must be brought inside.
  • Gas grills should be at least 3 feet away from the vinyl siding when in use to avoid melting the siding. Siding that is damaged will have to be replaced at the owner's expense.
  • Please close dumpster doors and lids after each use to discourage the local critters. Do not leave trash or large items outside of the dumpsters as they will not be picked up by the drivers.
  • Dog owners are encouraged to use the dog path located behind and to the right of unit 100. All pets must be on a leash when out walking - Please pick up after your pet. No pets are to be tied up outside or allowed in the swimming area.
  • Noise…now that the weather is allowing us to leave our windows open, please be kind to your neighbors. Keep the music down and the parties under control.
